Jewellery Care Guide - How to Look After Your Jewellery
The Materials
All Yzill Jewellery is made of 925 Sterling Silver.
Wear and tear over time
Each piece of Yzill jewellery is carefully crafted and requires delicate handling.
The silver pieces are either polished, matte, oxidized, black rhodium plated or plated with 18 -carats of gold. However, it is IMPORTANT TO NOTE that any surface treatments will fade and be worn off with frequent wear. This is normal and not a reason for a query. The surfaces on items which are in contact with skin like rings and bracelets will fade faster due to contact with sweat, lotion, perfume or any other fluids.
How to take care of your jewellery
Perfume, lotion, hairspray, water, salt, sun, chlorine or any other fluids and chemicals are your jewellery's worst enemy, so try to avoid any direct contact with these substances. As a result, it is very important to take your jewellery off when washing your hands, bathing, doing household tasks, sleeping, tanning, going to the beach or doing sports.
How to clean your jewellery
Clean your jewellery from time to time by brushing the piece softly in warm water and let it dry well. Or even better just gently wipe with a soft jewellery cloth.
Silver jewellery tarnishes over time, which means that the surface will get darker. If the silver has tarnished use a neutral detergent and warm water or dip it in a liquid silver cleaner for a maximum of 5 seconds. Then rinse the piece in water and polish with a soft, dry cloth. Remember only to put your jewellery in the silver cleaner for max 5. sec. or the coating will fade as well. Keep diamond and pearl items away from detergent and perfume as this will make them lose their lustre.
How to store and protect your jewellery when not in use
The best way to protect and store your jewellery when not in use is in an airtight bag or jewellery box. Keep it away from sunlight as well and store it in a dark drawer if not in the box. This is due to the fact mentioned above, namely that sterling silver jewellery becomes coated with verdigris when out in the air. It is also best to store them in a dry room and not in the bathroom, as the humidity will speed up the verdigris process.
Your jewellery can last forever
If you follow the instructions and advice from our Jewellery Care Guide your new jewellery can last a lifetime. Sterling silver is a metal that never ceases to exist. If treated correctly it can travel through generations and you will be able to pass on your favourite designs to your children, daughter-in-law or best friend.
